I just found a new product that's not quite an alternative because it's not as flexible as the Gorillamobile but it is cheap (much cheaper), small and easy to carry around and also seems to do a good job at propping up the iPhone.
The Movie Peg comes in different colours -
and works like this.

If I didn't have my Gorillamobile already, I would definitely want to try this out.
